Week 40 obstetrician checkup

We can't believe I made it to week 40!
I am now close to 3cm dilated, and have flu like symptoms hmmm
We went for a beautiful walk in the camellia gardens today.
I just know it won't be long now.

Supermarkets are hazardous!

Today was an exciting day because we went for a short trip to the shops to get ingredients for taco dinner. Some bonehead spilled rice all over the floor in aisle 10 and guess who went for a ride on it? Me! Thankfully I fell forwards onto my knees and hands so my bump was protected. I met the store manager and had to fill in an accident report. Talk about drama! I seem to have escaped with only a bruised knee. Phew.
I thought the fall might have triggered labour but, alas, no. So this afternoon I ate half a packet of prunes and we had extra hot chilli tacos for dinner! Come on Bean!

Just sitting, waiting......

Hmmm so far no action yet. The little Hinchey bean has been very kind in that it gave me some time to have a lovely lunch at Jack of Harts & Jude cafe yesterday with daddy and our dear friends Jen & Stu. I had the organic beef burger with home made beetroot and a big chunk of hummingbird cake. Yummmm!
Last night we watched some more episodes of Lost. We're up to the last season with only 3 episodes to watch. I hope bean is polite enough to let me see the finale tonight.... I also wouldn't mind watching the mighty Dragons v Rabbitohs game tomorrow afternoon.
So far today I've been eating, eating, stretching, had a visit from the Jehovah's witnesses, and now I'm chillin on the back verandah in the sun with my shadow (oscy the cat) by my side. Happy days :)
Bean is still moving heaps and I have had none of the signs that labour is coming. Just a bit of pelvic pain from running out of room.
I have had the Jack Johnson song 'sitting waiting' playing in my head all morning hehe
Stay tuned.....

No baby yet, but here's Kat's savoury muffin recipe instead

Another favourite from the baby shower:

Preparation Time
25 minutes

Cooking Time
30 minutes

Makes
12

Ingredients
Olive oil (optional), to grease
3 bacon rashers, trimmed, chopped
3 medium (about 550g) Desiree potatoes
225g (1 1/2 cups) plain flour
3 tsp baking powder
125g (1 cup) grated cheddar
1 bunch fresh chives, chopped
1/2 bunch fresh Continental parsley, chopped
80mls (1/3 cup) olive oil
2 eggs, lightly whisked
125 mils (1/2 cup) milk
Salt & ground black pepper, to taste

Method
Preheat oven to 180°C. Brush 12 medium (125mls/ 1/2-cup) muffin pans with the olive oil to lightly grease, line them with paper cases or use Cook the bacon in a non-stick flying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until it starts to brown. Remove from heat.
Peel and then coarsely grate the potatoes. Squeeze out any excess liquid from the grated potatoes using your hands.
Sift together the plain flour and baking powder into a medium bowl. Add the cooked bacon, grated potatoes, 90g (3/4 cup) of the cheddar, chives and parsley and stir to combine.
Whisk together the olive oil, eggs, and milk. Add to the potato mixture, season well with salt and pepper and stir with a large metal spoon until just combined.
Spoon the mixture evenly into the muffin pans and sprinkle with the remaining 35g (1/4 cup) cheddar. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden and cooked when tested with a skewer. Stand in pans for 2-3 minutes before turning onto a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
Notes
These muffins are great for brunch, added to a lunch box or picnic hamper, or served at a barbecue instead of bread. The cheddar can be replaced by 100g (1 1/4 cups) grated Parmesan.

Variations: Potato & dill muffins with smoked salmon: Leave out the bacon and replace the chives and parsley with 1 tbs chopped fresh dill. Split the cooled muffins and serve them spread with cream cheese and filled with smoked salmon. Sweet potato muffins: Replace the potato with the same quantity of orange sweet potato (kumara), leave out the bacon and add 1 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg with the flour..

Week 39 Ob checkup.... Not long to go!

Dr Booth said today that baby will come in the next few days! I am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced for you medical buffs out there. Daddy chris and I are so excited about meeting our little person soon!!!
I'm still feeling fab, been doing 1hr of yoga each day and had a fantastic sleep last night.
I am craving caramel but have resisted so far as I don't want to inflict any lactose intolerance symptoms on bub or hospital staff hehe
Chris and I are spending the day together and making the most of it. Went to Bunnings and walked every aisle making sure I sniffed all the good hardware and wood smells all the way round. We are now waiting in Centrelink to hand in the papers for my paid parental leave (thankyou federal government)
Then were off to grab a bite to eat.
Who knows what my next post will be???!!

Week 38 obstetrician visit

We've just been to see Dr Booth again and everything went well. A lovely strong heartbeat, and bub is still growing but has not cracked 9lb yet. The big news today is that my cervix is 1cm dilated, but it is still thick, so this means that my body is getting ready to bring baby hinch into the world but at least not for a few days yet. Yay- that means I should make it to my next massage with angel Zarah on Thursday!
So far I have gained 8kg for this pregnancy which is very healthy.
My favourite food this week is cherries! Alas, they are from the US but I just have to have them :)

Baby shower guacamole recipe

By popular request, here is my recipe for guacamole, as enjoyed at the baby shower:

2 avocados, mashed roughly with a fork
1 lebanese cucumber, de-seeded and finely diced
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp to 1 tsp chilli powder (or less if you are a wuss)
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste

  >> combinbe everything in a bowl and serve with your favourite corn chips, crackers, carrot & celery sticks

I use indian Kashmirilal chilli powder because it is a bit more smokey and brilliant red colour.  Enjoy!

Week 38

Well I've been a bit slack during my first week off work in respect to blogging!  Saturday 9th was our last prenatal class at the hospital and the highlight was watching baby Liam, who was 1 day old, get his first bath.  Gorgeous!  the rest of the class was a bit boring, but we got through it and wished all the other couples good luck when we left at the end.  I wonder if we will see any of them at the hospital when the big day comes?
So the next day (Sun) was the baby shower and you would have read all about that in my previous blog.
Most of the week I spent doing banking stuff and health insurance stuff, as well as arranging for the foxtel people to install IQ HD.  I'm waiting for the techo to show up at our place to install it as I type this blog right now.
I just got interrupted by Oscar the cat who thought I might like a honeyeater bird in the house at 7:30am..... bird is fine and feathers have been cleaned up!  Naughty Oscy!
On Tuesday we saw the OB again and everything is healthy.  Baby Hinch is fully engaged in my pelvis now but is still in posterior position.  Margaret said that there is no chance it will turn until labour starts so that means I can stop watching tv in dog position for now.  Yay. My pelvis is getting sore from expansion though, and bubs feet often get caught in my ribs which is a bit ouchy! but I loves it!
Had coffee with Aunty Carol and Susy on Wednesday.  It was lovely to see them, and they gave me lots of tummy rubs for good luck.  Next time I see them I will be a Mum, fancy that!
Uncle Tim got good news about a job - he flew to Perth yesterday for his induction at a mining co. in Perth.  He will be back in Sydney to visit every now and then, but I got some lovely photos with him before he left....

Good luck over there brother!!
xx

Baby Shower!

On Sunday 10th July, Aunty Kat, Gran Maude and Grammy Marie hosted a baby shower for me and bub at home.  If my last day at work was the best day ever, this was the best afternoon ever!  Surrounded by about 20 of my closest friends and rellos I had a lovely afternoon tea.... there was champagne, sandwiches, scones, brownies, cheeses & dips...... aunty Kat made sensational savoury muffins, Therese made heavenly lemon cupcakes, and Jen and Alannah showed up with the cutest chocolate cupcakes decorated like little baby faces (they tasted sooooo good they could not possibly have been dairy free even though they were).  All the girls showered me with beautiful baby gifts.  I usually find it really hard to receive gifts but I just embraced it and it was wonderful fun.  So many cute clothes and toys, and even a movie pamper pack for me which included my favourite caramel popcorn!  We also had games: guess the circumference of Sally's tummy, and a funny 20 question baby trivia quiz.  Deb D guessed my tummy size exactly! She and Maxine also turned into sparkle fairies and made sure there was not one thing left to wash up in the kitchen at the end of the day - big hugs to you!

Last Day at Work - BEST day ever!

Today is my last day at work and I am having a blast.  We had a huge morning tea with so much tasty food.  My lovely friends Therese, Robyn and Karen did a wonderful job organising, cooking and setting up the room with colourful balloons and a special banner saying 'Good luck Sally' (nice work by artist Col).  Now I am back at my desk surrounded by balloons and gifts.  It's just so lovely.  I am going to miss my work friends so much, they really are lovely people to be around.  Have taken lots of photos today and will post them later on.
Grammy and Dar Hinchey (aka Sparkle Fairy and Sparkle Elf) are at Engadine today doing their magical cleaning thing.  I can't wait to get home and see them.  I especially want to show them my belly as they've been in the UK visting Aunty Lillibet for the past 5 weeks and Bean has done so much growing since they left!
Our second (and last) prental class at the hospital is tomorrow.  We will learn about how to care for the baby when it comes out, and hopefully get to bath one of the real babies in the post-natal ward.  Looking forward to it.
So here I am on the home stretch............. the rest of my work day will be spent doing a bit of work to the tune of Abbey Road, one of the best Beatles albums in my opinion. la la la........

Week 36 Obstetrician Visit: It's gonna be BIG

Daddy Chris and I went to another OB check-up today.  Blood pressure good, my health also very good, apart from feeling rather tired and getting cankles from sitting down at my desk too much at work!

I did a group B strep test and will get the results for that next week.

Dr Booth checked bubba's heart rate which was very strong as usual.  After prodding my tummy she remarked that we are growing 'one helluva baby in there' and that bubba Hinch is going to be 8lb+.  Seems that someone had a growth spurt this week!  She said that next week she will be able to tell us if it's going to be 9lb+.

Tonight I am busy on iTunes preparing classical and instrumental music playlists for labour.  So far we have Handel's Watermusic, Mozart, Pachelbell, symphonic Led Zeppelin and Moby.

We had home made fried rice with prawns, corn, peas, mushrooms, egg, coriander and chilli for dinner.  Little bean did lots of kicking afterwards, I think the chilli was exciting!

Week 35 Obstetrician Check-up

Today we went and saw Dr Booth again and it was an interesting visit! Gran Maude came along because Daddy Chris had to work today. It was business as usual at the start: we saw midwife Le and got my blood pressure checked and had question time. Blood pressure good. Then just as we were about to see Dr Booth she had to leave because there was a lady up the road at the hospital giving birth! How rude LOL
The receptionist said it would be a quick birth, so I waited in the waiting room with 2 other lovely ladies. Then one of the other ladies went into labour! It was so exciting. Le sat with her and timed her contractions and kept her calm. We had an impromptu lesson from Le on breastfeeding and I learned lots. Then Dr Booth came back, cool as a cucumber, and saw me after the other ladies. Bub is growing very well and heartbeat very strong as usual. Bub has flipped sides so is now left occiput posterior and head is already engaged in my pelvis. Don't panic though, this is no indication that bub will arrive early. Heartbeat!

Daddy heard bubby bean's heartbeat with his ear to my tummy tonight!!! Exciting!!!

Uncle Tim goes the extra mile

Uncle Tim went to extremes to get a whooping cough vaccination yesterday. He got himself run over by a car and the hospital gave him the vaccine for free. Good onya Tim!
On a more serious note, miraculously Tim is ok. No broken bones but plenty of nasty cuts. He is lucky to be alive and the paramedics and hospital staff could not believe how few injuries he had considering the nature of the accident. We love you Tim and are so glad you are okay!

Week 34 comes to an end

So week 34 is over, only three weeks of work to go.  My tummy is still growing and bub moves lots.  I have however learned to sleep despite all the kicking, daddy tells me that when he stays up late reading in bed he rests his hand on my tummy and gets special kicks that I dont know about.
I have been feeling really thirsty even though I'm drinking 2-3 litres of water a day, but Little Le says this is nothing to be concerned about and is probably because I spend 5 days a week in an air conditioned office. I have also felt my first little braxton hicks practise contractions in the last few days.
Cravings this week include cinnamon toast, sugar bananas, dark chocolate button melts and the smell of crown lager of course!
I finally started to pack my hospital bag yesterday - toiletries, undies for 5 days, a gorgeous peter alexander nightie with blue and pink hearts on it, hot pink slipper socks and an ipod dock. I dont have enough big clothes to pack them in advance so I will just chuck whatever I can in the bag when the time comes.
Daddy and Uncle (cousin) Mark are going to Beers & Bubs tomorrow night to learn about babies, birth and how they can help, it's an information night at a local pub especially for blokey blokes who dont like reading pregnancy books.  I read on the Beers & Bubs website that one of the things a man should never say to a woman in labour is 'that looks painful'.  hahahahahahahaha

My secret weapon for no stretch marks

I rub pure coconut oil on my tummy every night, and sometimes daddy helps. So far not one stretch mark and no linea nigra (the vertical dark line that most pregnant ladies get)
